After Ian. After Milton. After the next one.

Florida storms do not just take shingles. They take settlements.

The Florida insurance market changed after the 2022 and 2024 storm seasons. Carriers tightened roof age cutoffs, raised deductibles, and pushed back harder on claims. The roof needs to be repaired correctly, and the claim needs to be documented well enough that your adjuster has nothing to argue about.

Coastline runs every storm-damage job through a drone inspection, a full photo report, and a written scope that lines up with what each major Florida carrier expects. Hundreds of post-hurricane claims with Citizens, Heritage, Universal, Slide, State Farm, and the national carriers. We know what gets approved and what gets denied.

Once the claim is approved, we pull permits, complete the work to current Florida code, and close out the job with the final inspection and warranty paperwork.

Insurance claims explained

What Florida law requires your insurer to do, and when

Most homeowners have never filed a roof claim before. Florida statutes set specific deadlines that your insurer must meet, and knowing them puts you in a much stronger position if the process stalls.

Your filing deadline

Florida Statute 627.70132 gives you one year from the date of the storm to file an initial claim. For supplemental claims on already-open files (for example, hidden damage found during repairs), the deadline is 18 months from the date of loss. Missing either deadline typically voids coverage for that event. FL Statute 627.70132 via flsenate.gov

What your insurer must do

Florida Statute 627.70131 sets binding response deadlines for insurers once you file:

If your insurer misses the 90-day deadline, the claim may accrue interest at the statutory rate. Keeping a timestamped record of every communication matters. FL Statute 627.70131 via flsenate.gov

Contractor vs. public adjuster

A licensed roofing contractor can document damage, prepare a scope of repairs, and work alongside your adjuster, but cannot legally negotiate your claim settlement or act as your representative with the insurer. If you believe your claim is underpaid and want a professional to negotiate on your behalf, that requires a licensed public adjuster. We will tell you clearly which role applies to your situation and refer you to a licensed public adjuster if that is the right path.

What we provide for your claim file

Free storm-damage inspection. No claim, no obligation.

We will not push you to file a claim that does not have legitimate damage behind it. If the roof has years of life left, we will tell you. If the damage is real, you get a full photo report and an itemized scope to take to your insurer.

What homeowners say after a Coastline insurance claim

★★★★★

"Josh and his team installed our 3,800 sqft two-story peak roof in just 3 days. Not one nail hit the lawn. He helped pick the color, walked us through every step. My family is so pleased."

Faith E.Florida Gulf Coast · Post-storm replacement
★★★★★

"I chose Coastline mainly due to the excellent customer service and the fact that it is a local company. Other estimates came in lower but they were at least 4 months out. Coastline made my house and my insurance deadline a priority."

TL O.Florida Gulf Coast · Insurance deadline
★★★★★

"Josh and his crew knocked it out of the park. After a year of back-and-forth with insurance, Josh got the roof covered. We paid the difference for a standing seam metal roof. That's the only way to go."

Storm damage FAQ

Common questions about hurricane and storm-damage claims in Florida

How fast can you inspect for storm damage?

Same-week in normal conditions, and same-day if the roof is open and water is coming inside. After Ian and Milton we ran 7-day-a-week inspections to clear the backlog. Call (941) 896-7793 and we will get you on the calendar.

Do you work directly with my insurance company?

Yes. We coordinate directly with Citizens, Heritage, Universal, Slide, State Farm, and all national carriers. We can meet your adjuster on the roof, send the damage packet to the carrier, and answer claim questions in real time.

What if my insurance denies the claim?

It depends on why. If the carrier denied legitimate damage, we provide additional photo evidence and code-citation language for an appeal or supplement. If the damage is genuinely outside the policy, we will tell you that too. We do not chase non-existent damage to inflate a claim.

How do I know if my roof has real storm damage?

Common signs include lifted or missing shingles, visible granule wash in the gutters, cracked or slid tile, dented metal flashing, debris impact marks, and interior staining on ceilings or in the attic. Drone inspection often catches uplift damage that is invisible from the ground. Free inspection either way.

Will my insurance cover emergency tarping?

Most Florida homeowner policies cover emergency tarping after a covered loss. We document the damage with photos for your claim and submit the tarp invoice in the format your adjuster expects.

How fast can you get a tarp on my roof?

Same-day in most cases across Manatee, South Pinellas, and South Hillsborough. We run a 24/7 emergency line so you are not waiting until business hours when water is coming through the ceiling.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Coastline Roofing is a Florida Certified Roofing Contractor, license CCC1331076, fully insured. Locally owned and licensed in Florida for 10 years.

How long do I have to file a roof insurance claim in Florida?

Florida Statute 627.70132 gives you one year from the date of the storm to file an initial claim. For supplemental claims on an already-open file, the deadline is 18 months from the date of loss. Missing either deadline typically voids coverage for that event, which is why we recommend scheduling an inspection as soon as possible after a storm, even if visible damage seems minor.

Storm hit. Claim filed or about to file. Coastline picks up.
